What each number means.
Antenna gain
How strongly the antenna focuses energy compared with an isotropic antenna, in dBi. Gain rises with antenna size and frequency: doubling the diameter adds about 6 dB.
G/T
The receive figure of merit: gain minus system noise temperature, in dB/K. It is the number satellite operators use to qualify a receive earth station.
Beamwidth
The angle across the main beam at half power. Narrow beams reject interference from adjacent satellites, but they need accurate pointing and a tracking-capable mount or controller at large sizes.
Need to point it? Use the satellite look angle calculator. Large antennas may also need antenna control and tracking systems.
